Practicing your shooting in game-like simulations will pay off huge when it comes to actually taking those shots in a game. This iSport lesson features the Five & Out Drill, which has you shooting from several different game-type situations. The Five & Out Drill works best if you have two partners, one that stands under the basket near the baseline to rebound and defend, and another that stands near the top of the key to pass you the ball. Start the drill by standing behind the defender, on the baseline. Cut around the defender, run to the elbow, and take a mid-range catch-and-shoot jumper. Return back to the baseline. Cut around the defender again, and this time, receive the pass about halfway between the free throw line and the three point line, for a turnaround catch-and-shoot jumper. Return to the baseline. Move around the defender again, curl towards the middle of the key, receive a pass, take one dribble, and then rise up for a short jump shot. Return to the starting point of the baseline. For your fourth shot, fake a curl around the defender, fade to the corner, receive a pass, and take a jump shot. Return to the baseline. For your fifth and final shot, fake a curl around the defender, fade to the corner, receive the pass, pump fake, take a dribble and shoot the ball. Once you make all five shots in a row, switch sides of the court and repeat the drill. Let's go over what this lesson covers. The Five & Out Drill tests your range from varying distances and incorporates several in-game situations. The more comfortable you are shooting from these situations, the easier it will be to do so during the game. Being able to shoot on the move and from different spots on the floor are two important keys to unlocking your offensive basketball potential.
