The ability to shoot while moving is a crucial offensive skill in basketball. This iSport lesson features the “sink or swim” drill, which will help your ability to shoot on the move. For this drill, you will need at least one partner. Start at the top of the key with no ball. Cut to the right elbow, located at the corner of the free throw line. Receive a pass from your partner, and then quickly rise up for an elbow jumper. After you shoot, backpedal to the top of the key. Then, cut to the left elbow for another jump shot. For every jump shot you make, you get a point. For every miss, you subtract two points from your score. You pass the drill once you’ve scored ten points and you lose if you reach negative ten. Here’s a breakdown of this drill. The “sink or swim” drill has you work on mid range jumpers from both sides of the top of the key. It also gets you used to quickly taking shots from a pass. Being able to shoot on the move and from different spots on the floor are two important keys to unlocking your offensive basketball potential. Practising this drill will help you in both of these areas.
